How Many Remembered The Two Anniversaries This Week?
By unitedweroll on Jul 28, 2009 | In Military News and Support
If you were having lunch with some friends or coworkers, do you think any would remember?
If you asked a young adult, would he or she know?
If you visited a classroom and asked, would they know?
If you visited a Veteran group, I bet they could tell you!
Monday, July 27th, was the anniversary of the end of the Korean War - July 27, 1953.
Today, Tuesday July 28th, is the anniversary of the day that world War I began - 95 years ago - July 28, 1914.
Some may say what is so important about a couple of old dates. How about the thousands upon thousands of American lives that were lost, wounded and the troops who disappeared, labeled as MIA's, or suffered in the camps as POW's? How about the young men and women who gave their lives for the same reasons that many do today - for liberty, for freedom and for the American way of life they wish to pass on to their children and their children's children and so on.
And what of those aging Veterans who were the kids in these two wars of so long ago? Who checks on them? Who listens to their stories? How many of our school children have met a real hero? Why not?
We have only three living Veterans from WWI:
Three Veterans of WWI who are still living:
*Frank Buckles of the USA who is 108 years young
*John Babcock of Canada who is 109 yrs young
*Claude Stanley Choules of the UK, who joined the Royal Navy at 15 years of age, eventually transferred to the Australian Navy and resides in Australia– also 108 years young.
Let's take the time to acknowledge our Veterans from the Korean War and all wars since, before time flies and they are no longer here to share their wisdom with us and accept our gratitude.
Let's take time to mark our calendars and acknowledge every one of these dates that took so many young Americans away from their families in order for freedom to survive. Let us make sure that history stays alive so it can fuel the gratitude we should feel for all that we have.
May God Bless & Watch Over All Who Protect Us and Our Families, Our Homes and Our Country. May God Protect the Families of Those Who Serve To Protect Us.
