Here's An Opportunity For AF Shutter Bugs Of Most Ages

It is really amazing how technology has changed our way of life from being able to stay in touch across the country and the world, to helping our younger citizens express themselves. Photos, Music, Physical Competitions, and just about every facet has been greatly enhanced by the arrival of the digital cameras, Ipods, computers with recording software and soooooo much more. Not to mention being able to share almost instantaneously on sites like Facebook and the other online locations.
I am glad to see how the Air Force Family program is taking advantage of this technology with this very neat program they have going on for the Air Force Family. And it is happening in all the services - look at the great music group called "4Troops" and the many other talented military members who have had their songs heard by so many of their countrymen. How about the two precious National Guard daughters who wrote a song for their Dad who was on deployment and they received support from some famous musical artists. Of course, I am speaking of the beautiful song Price of Peace by Alyssa and Cassie Gaddis.
Well, here comes one more. I sure wish there had been something like this when I was growing up. Though I am not sure if my camera would have made it through in one piece. I was the proverbial Candid Camera Kid, always catching my family and friends on film when they least expected it. I still have a great love for the camera and the wonderful photos we can capture of the many gifts we are surrounded with from beautiful landscapes to incredible Historical and Memorial Parks and so much more. Okay, enough of my gabbing .... here is the news for the AF members and family members who also share the love of photography......

MyAirForceLife.com photography competition

RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – Air Force Services Agency officials are accepting photograph entries on myairforcelife.com, now through July 4, as part of the Year of the Air Force Family.
This is an opportunity for Airmen and eligible patrons of Air Force morale, welfare, and recreation programs to express through their photos what Air Force life means to them. Eligible family members ages 12 – 17 years can compete in the youth category.
“We are really looking forward to seeing how our youth depict their Air Force life through photography,” said Carol Sudy, marketing specialist at the Air Force Services Agency.
Contestants may submit up to three photos. Submission guidelines are available at http://www.myairforcelife.com/contests/photo_rules.html.
Once uploaded, visitors to the site can vote for their favorite photos. Entries with the highest number of votes will become finalists. The earlier a photo is submitted, the more time it can rack up votes.
Even though online voting will determine the finalists, the final winner selection will be made by professional photographers.
One winner in each category (youth and adult) will receive a Nikon D90 camera package including a Nikon SB-900 flash, Manfrotto tripod, SanDisk 4GB card, and battery charger, valued at $2,000. Furthermore, the adult winner will receive a one-hour mentoring Skype session with Ansen Seale, a professional photographer.
Last year, Air Force Services Agency officials launched MyAirForceLife.com to help Airmen and their families stay connected, informed and engaged in programs as part of the Year of the Air Force Family.
“To date, we have awarded over 492 prizes, including Apple Macbook computers, Flip Video cameras, Sony eBook Readers, iPods, Acer netbooks, and more,” said Ms. Debbie Karnes, Air Force Services Agency spokeswoman. “A list of winners can be found on the site. For each competition, we add new prizes. During the photograph competition, those who register on the site are eligible to win a Nikon Cool Pix S70 digital camera and iTunes cards.”
Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz and Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley designated July 2009 to July 2010 as the Year of the Air Force Family, a period to recognize the sacrifices and contributions of the diverse Air Force family including active duty, Reserves, Air National Guard, single Airmen, civilians, spouses, children, retirees, and community partners.
“Taking care of families is a solemn promise we make to each Airman and family member,” said Secretary Donley. “Sense of community is a cultural trademark of the Air Force, and we will seek ways to nurture it as part of the larger ‘Year of the Air Force Family’ effort.”
