Welcome Stardust Listeners and thank you for joining us on United We Roll this Tuesday, the 22nd day of June, 2010 as we take time to honor those who serve our country and who protect our freedom!!
We have three very interesting visits with 6 of our special guests who are currently serving in Iraq and Kyrgzystan to share with you all. The show will stay within our normal 2 hour period, ending at 4:00pm. Remember, if you are not able to stay with us through the show this afternoon, it will repeat again tomorrow evening, Wednesday, June 23rd at 6:30pm Central. In addition, an MP3 copy will be placed on our show archive site for listening and downloading. You can reach our archive site at www.stardustradio.info or on the United We Roll page at www.stardustradio.com.
(2:11pm) During our first visit today, we will be talking with three members of a unit that becomes a household name wherever they are based, as they are always active in communities and wherever needed. I am speaking of Red Horse, and the 557th ERHS (Expeditionary Red Horse Squadron) which was one of the first units to arrive at JBB (Joint Base Balad) to help build the base and our guests today will be among the last Red horse members there as they prepare for the changes in association with the drawdown. Joining us are SMSgt Rondall Burkhart, MSgt Joseph Simkanin and TSgt Jason Benson, all three of whom have been on other deployments and between the three of them have 54 years of service. These three airmen bring a wealth of information and experiences to share with us. You will hear about the incredible accomplishments that the members of this Red Horse unit have made and still are making, the incredible pace they are able to keep up no matter what the weather and much more. This is a great visit and we truly appreciate the time that SMSgt Rondall Burkhart, MSgt Joseph Simkanin and TSgt Jason Benson were able to spend with us.
(2:46pm) Our next visit is with Army 1Lt. Anthony M Drella, who is currently deployed with C Co, 2-7 IN, 3rd ID (that is the 2-7 Infantry of the 3rd Infantry Division). 1LT Drella is right about half way through his deployment which is scheduled last for one year and this Platoon Leader comments that it has been interesting to go from the role of combat to one of assistance as the draw down has been proceeding with the Iraqi forces taking the lead in most operations. There is a lot more going on than holding back and watching the action. 1Lt Drella brings us a lot of information and we will understand the draw down much better after his visit. We wish both 1Lt Drella and his brother who is serving in Afghanistan safe deployments and wonderful homecomings. We will also see if we can catch up with 1Lt Drella again before he heads home.
(3:20pm) Our final visit for today is with two members of the 376th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and are deployed to Transit Center Manas in Kyrgyrzstan. A1C "Manny" (Emmanuel) Jacoby is a crew chief on the C-17 and SSgt Stephanie Masterson is an engine specialist for the same aircraft. From the time that A1C Jacoby directs a plane to its parking place, it is up to the maintenance team to make sure any problems are taken corrected and that the plane is ready to take off again on schedule to its next destination. This could take 1 1/2 to 3 hours and another plane may be arriving as the first plane departs, year round. This is a great visit with two very dedicated Heroes of Freedom who share how important it is that every plane reaches its destination on time.
We would like to thank some folks without whom these visits would not be possible. Our deepest appreciation goes to Capt Schultheiss, Mr Conning, SSG Viss and MSgt Hamill.
Ladies & Gentlemen, we wish to thank all of you for joining us today and we hope that you will be with us again next week when we will have more great visits from our Heroes of Freedom.
Our hearts and prayers go out to all of our military members, families, Veterans and to all of our first responders & their families - everyone who puts their lives on hold and on the line for us and our families.
We would like to remind anyone who is interested in health and legislative issues that affect those who protect our freedom to tune in to our other broadcasts – OFFE with Gene Simes and Jere Berry at 8pm Central on Tuesday nights and also with Rick Townsend and Firebase Network Sundays at 6:00pm Central.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL & MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA!
