Tuesday 9/28/10 2:00pm – 4:30pm Central (Live)
Wednesday 9/29/10 6:30pm – 9:00pm Central (Repeat)
Welcome Stardust Listeners and thank you for joining us on United We Roll this Tuesday, the 28th day of September, 2010 as we once again take time to honor those who serve our country and who protect our freedom!
Now on to our show .... We have four great visits with deployed members who have been or are currently serving overseas. All four of our guests have something in common - they all have duties that help those with whom they serve. The show will end at 4:30pm Central, which is 30 minutes past our usual two hour broadcast period. Remember, if you are not able to stay with us through the show this afternoon, it will repeat again tomorrow evening, Wednesday, Sept 29th at 6:30pm Central. In addition, an MP3 copy will be placed on our show archive site for listening and downloading after the shows have been broadcast. You can reach our archive site at www.stardustradio.info or on the United We Roll page at www.stardustradio.com.
(2:09pm) Our first visit for this show is with Army Spc Jody Miller, who is currently deployed with C Co, 2-7 IN, 3ID. This Gulf Coast native is working the communications lifeline through radio contact from the base to soldiers who are outside the wire. It is the dedication of soldiers like SPC Miller that helps us to understand how they manage deployment duties and separations from families.
(2:33pm) Coming up next is our conversation with Air Force MSG Jeremy Jones, who is on deployment with the 376th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron/Emergency Flight Management unit. MSG Jones ensures that the Emergency Operations Center is trained and ready to go in case of a natural disaster, accident or incident.
(3:13pm) Our third visit for this show is a quick one as we had a time restriction, but we still had a terrific visit with Army 1st Sgt Roy Dyer of the HHC, 1st AAB, 3ID. It takes a very special person to wear the diamond insignia of the 1st Sgt and you will know why Roy Dyer has the diamond and the rank after this visit.
(3:24pm) Our fourth and final visit of this show is with someone who is pretty special to Stardust Radio and United We Roll. Tom Conning not only has served on active duty with the Army, but he has also continued service to remain in Iraq and work with Public Affairs to tell the stories of the very special men and women who protect our freedom. This is a visit you will certainly enjoy and we were so happy to say "Welcome Home" upon Tom's return to the USA.
We would like to thank some folks without whom these visits would not be possible. Our deepest appreciation goes to TSG Jennifer Buzanowski, Capt Curt Schultheiss, Maj Vinston Porter and Tom Conning. Once again, there is no way for Jeff and I to express our true honor to host these conversations with such special men and women, and then bring them to you all.

Last Sunday, September 26th, was Gold Star Mothers' Day. This organization was founded by Grace Darling Seibold in 1918 after her son was lost in an airfight in WWI. She organized a group consisting solely of these special mothers, with the purpose of not only comforting each other, but giving loving care to hospitalized veterans confined in government hospitals far from home.
The organization was named after the Gold Star that families hung in their windows in honor of the deceased veteran. The group was officially named American Gold Star Mothers in 1928.
The whole history is really quite beautiful and can be found along with more information at the Gold Star Mothers Website. The address is http://www.goldstarmoms.com

"Hero's Highway" - A Legacy & A Salute To The Medical Personnel at JBB
By unitedweroll on Sep 27, 2010 | In Military News and Support
HERO'S HIGHWAY at JBB
One of the items we were not able to discuss due to the volume of other things we covered during our conversation with Dr/Maj Cameron Thurman and SSG Timothy Johansen of the Emergency Medicine Unit at the joint Base Balad Hospital (which aired on our show September 21st), was Hero's Highway - an area outside the ER that once overflowed with so many wounded that a large canopy was placed over the area to provide shade and some comfort from whatever weather was present.
At one point, the idea came up to layer the inside of the canopy with a huge US flag, which was done and the area was tagged Hero's Highway. Below is an article about this incredible legacy of the medical teams and the hospital at JBB who have been critical in saving so many lives. Recently the canopy and the fifth - the last - Old Glory to fly over Hero's Highway were taken down.
Though it may no longer stand, I imagine Hero's Highway will live on in the minds and hearts of many. May God bless all who rested under, worked under and passed through Hero's Highway.
Hero's Highway Receives New Dawn Upgrade

332nd Air Expeditionary Wing Public Affairs
9/2/2010 - JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq -- At midnight on the cusp between Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, 2010, Operation Iraqi Freedom ended and New Dawn began. Combat operations transitioned to an advisory and training role, and another page of history was completed.
At 7 a.m. on Sept. 1, members of the 332nd Expeditionary Medical Group Color Guard at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, carefully took down the large American Flag at "Hero's Highway," where tens of thousands of patients have gone on their way to medical care since 2006.
More than 30,000 patients have passed under the flag since 2006. But hopefully, said Col. John Mitchell, 332 EMDG commander, the new operational mission will bring more focus to the passing of knowledge through Hero's Highway, rather than flesh and blood.
As the 20-by-30-foot flag was carefully folded into a much-larger version of the customary triangle, members of the 332 EMDG took a moment to think about what that flag had witnessed in the past - and what it could witness in the future.
"This is the perfect time to change the flag as our focus also changes," said Colonel Mitchell. "We have taken down the flag associated with combat operations and the way things were. We are now focusing on 'training the trainers,' as we train and turn over control to the Iraqi army and air force in preparation for the end of the drawdown by Dec. 31, 2011. We have definitely come a long way in the past few years."
Before 2006, the hospital did not have the flag, or Hero's Highway. These sprang from necessity and a drive to comfort those who came here.
"Back in November 2004, during an operation called Phantom Fury near the city of Fallujah, patients were arriving faster than they could be processed in the emergency room," said Colonel Mitchell. "We had patients waiting outside in the elements, and it began to rain on the second day. After several attempts to cover the patients, medical teams erected a tent cover on a frame.
In June 2006, Hero's Highway received its name, and in November 2006 medical personnel put up an American flag on the bare tent ceiling to remind patients of what they were fighting for, said Colonel Mitchell. And so began the legacy of the Hero's Highway with its American flag.
The flag taken down during this first day of OND is actually the fifth Hero's Highway flag - and each has served as a visual assurance for wounded U.S., Iraqi and coalition servicemembers.
With Honor, Prayers & Remembrance For Our Gold Star Mothers

Gold Star Mothers Day Sunday -- September 26, 2010
With loving thoughts and heart felt prayers for our Gold Star Mothers, our country stops to honor and remember sacrifices made, hearts broken, lives given. The last Sunday in the month of September is set aside in our nation to pay tribute to the brave and loving mothers of our country's fallen military heroes.
May we pray together today for hope to fill each Gold Star Mother's heart, comfort to fill her days, and peace to fill her soul. May she rest in knowing that the pride she has for her hero shines out to others through her life.
Please find some comfort in the knowledge that your loved one will live on forever as a Hero of Freedom in the hearts of fellow Americans. May God always be with you.
Stardust Radio & United We Roll World Tour Show Reaching 9th Anniversary of Providing Military Support
By unitedweroll on Sep 20, 2010 | In Military News and Support
Here at Stardust Radio, we are hitting a big milestone this month of September, as we celebrate our 9th anniversary of providing military support on our United We Roll World Tour show. We began by including information about assistance that was available to our military members and families from fellow Americans across the country. We invited guests from every military support organization, which were not very many in 2001, but in 2003 we saw more groups forming and it grew from there.
As an all volunteer based radio network, we understand how difficult it can be to keep support organizations up and going financially, especially through the economic pressures that we have seen lately. We were always proud to provide free air time to those who also worked hard to provide support to our troops.
Over the years, our interviews with deployed troops became so popular with both our guests and listeners, that almost our entire broadcast time for United We Roll has been dedicated to these visits, as we bring fresh new conversations every week from those who protect our country and our freedom. We have spoken with hundreds of very special men and women, including approximately 300 in 2009 alone. Our greatest reward has been by way of the thanks and compliments we have received from our Heroes of Freedom, their family members and those who tune in or link to us each week.
We are proud to still be going and to have added more programs bringing support to those who have served. Gene Simes and Jere Beery of OFFE have not only kept information flowing for several years on legislation that impacts our Veterans, but they have been instrumental in increasing awareness and providing assistance. Rick Townsend, with his show of several years called Firebase Network, also brings great speakers, answers callers and has terrific forums that provide critical information for those who have given so much for us and for our country.
We thank all of you who tune in to our shows and who support our troops and Stardust Radio.

Welcome Stardust Listeners and thank you for joining us on United We Roll this Tuesday, the 21st day of September, 2010 as we once again take time to honor those who serve our country and who protect our freedom!
This past Friday, September 17th, was the National Day of Remembrance for our POW/Mia's. There were some beautiful and deeply touching events around our country. Hopefully, these Heroes and their families will never be out of our minds or out of our hearts & prayers.
We have three outstanding visits with deployed members who are currently serving overseas. The show will end at our usual time of 4pm Central. Remember, if you are not able to stay with us through the show this afternoon, it will repeat again tomorrow evening, Wednesday, Sept 22nd at 6:30pm Central. In addition, an MP3 copy will be placed on our show archive site for listening and downloading after the shows have been broadcast. (2:09pm) Our first visit for this show is with Air Force member SSG Yevgeniy Maksimov of the 376th AEW, who is currently on deployment at Transit Center Manas where he manages an office of host nation translators - that means people from the local area - in addition to serving as a translator and interpreter himself. One reason why "Max" is probably suited for this job is that he grew up in the Ukraine.
(2:40pm) Coming up next is a remarkable visit with two members of the Emergency Medic al Team at Joint Base Balad. We are speaking with Maj/Dr Cameron M. Thurman and SSG/Paramedic Timothy M. Johansen of the 332nd EMDG/ER. They both serve in Emergency Medicine, where they must be prepared for any type of injury or illness to come in at any time. (Also see article in UWR Blog called "Hero's Highway")
(3:16pm) Our third and final visit for this show is with Army Maj Gary Morea, who serves as the Brigade Aviation Officer of the 1AAB, 3ID, currently on deployment in Iraq. This visit covers a wealth of information including some experiences with that amazing Apache Helicopter from the Major's three deployments up to and including the present.
We would like to thank some folks without whom these visits would not be possible. Our deepest appreciation goes to TSG Jennifer Buzanowski, MSgt Mike Hamill, and Maj Vinston Porter. May I add that there is no way for Jeff and I to express our true honor to host these conversations with such special men and women and to bring them home to you all.
