United We Roll World Tour Show
Stardust Radio www.stardustradio.com
Tuesday 3/29/11 2:00pm – 4:00pm Central (Live)
Wednesday 3/30/11 6:30pm – 8:30pm Central (Repeat)
Welcome Stardust Listeners! Thank you for joining us on United We Roll this Tuesday, the 29th day of March, 2011.
One of my favorite days is almost here - April 1st - or it's more popular name - April Fool's Day! With today's technology, it is much easier to pull a few tricks without having to be close enough to the recipient to receive a sharp jab to the upper arm or well placed kick or possibly a dunk if a pool or a bayou is nearby. Same good laughs, but with less bruises ![]()
We have four very interesting and individual visits to share this afternoon. We are going to squeak past our usual end time by about 5 minutes in order to get all 4 visits in, we will be ending right about 4:05pm Central. Remember, if you are not able to stay with us through the afternoon today, this show will repeat again tomorrow, Wednesday, March 30th at 6:30pm Central.
(2:09pm) Our first visit is with Matt Parrish, who has served on deployments as an Army Medic, is now back home and is working on his very special project called Trek of Hope. Matt is walking from Tampa, Fl to Los Angeles, CA and back to Tampa to raise donations for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
(2:27m) Next, we meet up with Air Force SSgt Mikea Vance who is on deployment with the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing. As manager of the records program, SSG Vance oversees record and documents for signatures in addition to other duties including communications and IT equipment.
(2:51pm) Our third visit for this show is with Air Force TSgt Jeffrey Allen, who is on his 4th deployment and is serving this one as the Assistant Chief of Training for the Fire Department with the 332nd ECES (Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron). As a youngster, TSgt Allen had two interests - one to be a firefighter and the other to be in the military.
(3:22pm) Our fourth and final visit today is a bit of a treat as we will be hearing from two of the Smithers brothers, who are on deployment with the same Army Brigade. Just one year apart in age, PFC Kevin and PFC Stephon Smithers both enjoy their Army duties as Food Service Specialists and seeing that 5,000 to 6,000 soldiers who come to their facility each day receive food they can enjoy.
These are four visits that will certainly help us to appreciate the role of our men and women in uniform and the incredible jobs they do while on deployment and back at home to help their brother and sisters in uniform.
We would like to express our appreciation to some folks without whom the visits this week would not be possible. Our deepest appreciation goes to CPT Selina Tolonen, TSgt Jerome Baysmore and SSG Charles McNamara.

‘Longknife’ Squadron gives Iraqi Federal Police tour of their future headquarters
By 2nd Lt. Devin Osburn, 2nd AAB, 1st Inf. Div., USD-C
BAGHDAD—Iraqi Federal Police Col. Saleh, commander of the 7th Brigade, 2nd Iraqi Federal Police Division, paid a visit recently to Joint Security Station Falcon, Iraq, to inspect the compound where his forces are to reside in the near future.
“Security changes in Baghdad have allowed for Iraqi Federal Police to move back to traditional government bases and out of private homes and businesses,” said Lt. Col. Mathew Moore, commander of 5th “Longknife” Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, United States Division – Center and an Ophelia, Va., native. “Until now, the Federal Police have operated from their homes and businesses without a distinct headquarters.”
This is the first time the Longknife Squadron will hand over a JSS to an Iraqi brigade. The 7th Bde., 2nd IFP Div. will eventually make its headquarters at JSS Falcon, establishing a permanent presence there.
“During our previous tour, the unit conducted a hand-off of the base we were at with another U.S. unit,” said 1st Lt. Bradford Roshak, assistant operations officer of 5th Sqdn., 4th Cav. Regt. and a St. Clair, Mich., native. “It will be interesting to see the process conducted across language and cultural barriers.”
Moore guided Saleh around the JSS, showing him the buildings that Saleh’s unit will occupy. In the evening, the two commanders and their men shared a meal.
The Longknife Squadron’s focus is to ensure their Iraqi counterparts are given a proper hand-off, Moore said. The efforts range from something as simple as showing the ISF around JSS Falcon, to more elaborate planning involving operations and logistics.
Longknife troopers have begun working with the 7th Bde., 2nd IFP Div. to ensure that when the time comes for U.S. forces to withdraw, their Iraqi counterparts are set up for success.
While advising, training, and assisting the Iraqi Security Forces will continue to be the primary focus of the ‘Longknife’ Squadron as long as they remain in Iraq, many from the unit feel that the eagerness of the 7th Bde., 2nd IFP Div. to occupy JSS Falcon shows they are ready to establish a permanent headquarters in southwestern Baghdad.

RELEASE No. 20110328-01 March 28, 2011

“Dragon” Battalion works with Iraqi Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams to counter threats
By 1st Lt. Jared Viernes, 2nd AAB, 1st Inf. Div., USD-C
BAGHDAD—To help counter the threat posed by improvised explosive devices, United States forces possess specialist units called explosive ordnance disposal—experts in identifying, disarming, destroying and preventing IED attacks. However, with the responsible drawdown of U.S. forces in Iraq underway, it is imperative that these missions can be handled by the Iraqi Security Forces’ answer to the EOD team—bomb disposal companies.
The 6th Iraqi Army Division, based in Baghdad, has its own fully-capable bomb disposal company. The 6th IA Div. BDC and Soldiers of 731st Ordnance Company, attached to 1st Battalion, 63rd Armor Regiment, 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, United States Division – Center, have been working together on Joint Security Station Constitution, Iraq, since September, sharing intelligence on enemy techniques and collaborating on how to exploit them.
“[We] have a very strong relationship with the 6th IA BDC,” said 1st Lt. Veronica Potter, a platoon leader with 731st Ordnance Company and a Granada Hills, Calif., native. “They openly share information and evidence with us…our teams work well with all of their officers.”
The BDC has dramatically increased their ability to use robots for examination of IEDs, implemented sensitive site exploitation tactics, and developed disposal procedures for live IEDs through combined training with their U.S. counterparts.
The partnership relies in large part on key leader engagements, in which the U.S. and Iraqi officers plan training sessions, evidence analysis teams, and demolition operations. The leaders have learned much from each other, even in realms outside their normal operational boundaries.
“We have learned the value of patience,” said Potter. “In addition, we all have a better understanding of their customs and courtesies.”
The 6th IA BDC is run through the Field Engineering Regiment headed by Colonel Ahmed, with Lieutenant Colonel Ali serving as the BDC commander. Thanks to their unique abilities, the Soldiers of the BDC are authorized to respond independently to the majority of missions, as opposed to regular units who must answer to the division staff.
The BDC’s solid understanding of explosives and their ability to dispose of them are a valuable asset to all the Iraqi Security Forces within their area of operation. With each mission, they gain more confidence and experience, Potter said.

For our first show, we will be talking about some Freedom of Speech issues. Items like burning our country's flag (do our fellow Americans understand the true meaning of our flag)? Now the courts have been asked to consider taking Old Glory out of our classrooms! How would you feel if you could not bury your loved one in peace, but instead a group of strangers were picketing with vile signs and behavior? Yup, some of our fellow Americans have lost that right. And many others.
So, tune in Monday night, March 28th, at 6pm and let's talk about the rights that the majority of Americans deserve to have by our own Constitution and the intentions of our forefathers.
For more info on our new show, check the Press 1 For Enough Blog located at http://press1forenough.blogspot.com/.
