United We Roll World Tour Show
Stardust Radio www.stardustradio.com
Tuesday 8/30/11 2:00pm – 5:00pm Central (Live)
Wednesday 8/31/11 6:30pm – 9:30pm Central (Repeat)
Welcome Stardust Listeners! Thank you for joining us on United We Roll
Tuesday, the 30th day of Aug, 2011.
Due to the unusual natural activities of the past week, the earthquake that hit only minutes before we were to go on air last Tuesday and then Hurricane Irene, we had to delay the show we had planned to air on August 23rd. So, today's show will actually be an hour longer than usual as we include more interviews with our deployed Heroes of Freedom, ending about 5pm Central. We will check in with four deployed members, two in the Army and two serving with the Air Force. Each of our guests will share a wealth of information with us that will touch on a variety of military service and lifestyle issues. Remember, if you are not able to stay with us through the afternoon today, this show will repeat again tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug 31st at 6:30pm Central.
Let us send out our well wishes to our many neighbors who have been so badly affected by Hurricane Irene. And we also send our gratitude to the National Guard, the Red Cross and all who are going in to the hard hit areas to help.
(2:11pm) For our first visit, we are joined by Army 1LT Calvin King, who is on his 4th deployment since Jan 2002 and, as he says, his boys are growing up while he is gone. 1LT King holds down a minimum of two areas of responsibility with C Co/299th Brigade Support Battalion, 2-1 AAB as the Brigade Medical Supply Officer and also serves with the Convoy Commando Security which provide supplies to other bases and camps. This dedicated officer oversees medical supplies and maintenance for a brigade of around 4,000 soldiers. We often talk on Stardust Radio about how our military members are givers, and 1LT King is a shining example especially when you consider that he was a high school English teacher prior to standing guard over our freedom.
(3:02pm) Surprisingly there are not a lot of military Historians, but we have the honor of visiting with Mr. Faron Thompson this afternoon, who is currently on deployment with the 376th AEW at Transit Center Manas in Kyrgyzstan. As the Historian for the 376th, Mr Thompson is documenting all that goes on from the many units and offices around that base. Not only does he have a handle on what goes into the records of the 376th, but he himself has led a very interesting career both in and out of the military. This visit is just as interesting as the career journey taken by Mr Thompson, who is documenting today's activities for tomorrow's history.
(4:05pm) Our third visit is with SFC Jonathan DeLong of HHC, 1-18 IN, 2-1 AAB on deployment in Iraq. SFC DeLong is no stranger to Stardust Radio as one of his duties is Public Affairs and he has helped to bring us some great visits from his unit over the past months. He is also the Battalion Fire Support Officer (Sr Artilleryman), assists in Humanitarian Outreach projects and, of course, looks after the soldiers in his unit. Are there enough hours in the day? Probably not as this soldier, who is on his 3rd deployment to Iraq, stays very busy in these closing days of service in this country. Yet, on top of all that, SFC DeLong received his Associate's Degree last month.
(4:38 pm) Our fourth and final visit for the afternoon is with TSG Terry Murrell who is also currently on deployment with the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing at Transit Center Manas in the Kyrgyz Republic. TSG Murrell's visit wil once again confirm just how busy our military members are, especially on deployment, and yet they maintain an amazing energy level. TSG Murrell has worked in three areas during this tour away from home and is even looking at possibly extending his length of deployment beyond the 6 months as originally scheduled. Another great visit with a Hero of Freedom who has joined the 1% of the American population who dedicate their lives to protecting others.
We would like to express our appreciation to some folks without whom the visits this week would not be possible. Our deepest appreciation goes to Army CPT Selina Tolonen, Air Force TSgt Tammie Moore and SFC Jonathan DeLong.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL & MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA!

CANDLELIGHT MEMORIAL AUGUST 30TH 6PM - 11PM
YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Facebook Page Title: LIGHT A CANDLE IN THE MEMORY OF SPC CHAD CLEMENTS
We would like to mention that the family and friends of SPC Chad D Clements are holding a countrywide candle light memorial tonight starting at 6pm until 11:00pm in your time zone. SPC Clements, 26 years young, was assigned to the 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. SPC Clements was killed Aug. 30th of 2010 in Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Also killed in the attack were Army Capt. Dale A Goetz, Army Staff Sgt. Jesse Infante, Army Staff Sgt. Kevin J. Kessler and Army Staff Sgt. Matthew J. West.
While this memorial was started for Chad and his fallen unit members, it would be totally appropriate to also remember any and all of our Fallen Heroes. May God bring these Heroes of Freedom eternal peace and may He comfort their loved ones.
In this show, you will hear 1LT King ask to remember Army CWO2 Bryan J. Nichols and his family. Chief Nichols, 31 years young, of Hays, died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter in which he, as a crew member, and 37 others were riding when it was shot down.
We will be participating during the candlelight vigil this evening to remember Chief Nichols and his family, Chad and his unit members, the Fallen Heroes from the units in the 2-1 AAB on duty in Iraq, to all who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the past years and to all the loved ones.

UPDATE on story - He has already lost his right leg & arm for our freedom, should Richard lose his home now? http://stardustradio.info/b2evolution/blog1.php?blog=1
Our deepest thanks to those who responded, Richard can stay in his home and focus on healing. God bless you!
Sadly, we know that more injured Veterans who are waiting on slow claims will also be needing help for utilities, groceries, and some for help with rent. We are talking about Veterans who served one to four tours in Iraq and/or Afghanistan and came home with serious, life changing injuries, but whose claims still have not cleared the VA.
Until these claims are settled on a timely basis and until our Vets who are trying to recover from amputations and worse are able to focus on healing without worrying about keeping a roof over their heads, we must be ready to help. Veterans For Change is great about locating organizations and churches to help, talking to landlords to work out payments, etc. But each week, there is still help needed to see that 4 - 6 injured Vets have shelter, food and power. Please help whenever you can. THANK YOU!
And a reminder to all - Will you please contact your elected officials and ask them to expedite the claims of the wounded from your state so they do not suffer the additional stress of worrying about losing their homes while they also try to heal?

PRT soldier ignores own injuries, treats others

How much do you want to bet if we called Sgt Ackley a Hero, he would say he was just doing his job?
PRT soldier ignores own injuries, treats others
Combined Joint Task Force 1 - Afghanistan
Story by Capt. David Tomiyama
Date: 08.25.2011
KHOWST PROVINCE, Afghanistan - For U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Chris Ackley, a civil affairs specialist with the Khowst Provincial Reconstruction Team, helping others is starting to become a trend.
The native of Beaver Dam, Wis., provided medical care to Soldiers and a civilian after sustaining injuries from a grenade attack during a mission in the Sabari District Aug. 15.
This is the second event in which he used his medical skills to aid others, having helped save an Afghan woman’s life after she suffered a gunshot wound July 6.
“I was at the right place at the wrong time,” Ackley said.
The mission the afternoon of Aug. 15 for Ackley and Khowst PRT CA officer in charge U.S. Army 1st Lt. Andrew Docksey, of West Bend, Wis., was to conduct engagements with the elders and citizens of Majies Village.
Soldiers from 1st Platoon, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Task Force Duke; and the Afghan National Army, pushed out at 2:30 p.m. to carry out their task.
After more than three hours of engaging the locals, the team returned to their vehicles for the ride back to their headquarters at Combat Outpost Sabari. However, before they reached the vehicles two grenades were lobbed over a nearby wall, one bouncing off the radio telephone operator’s back and the other landing 20 feet from Ackley.
The team scattered and took up defensive positions.
After the grenades exploded, the team started to take small arms fire from an unseen enemy.
During the fire fight, Ackley said he was struck by shrapnel. Ignoring the pain, he aided the team in securing the area, enabling the wounded to find cover in a nearby house.
“The (infantry) training many of [us] had gone through really came into play,” said Docksey. “We knew to move right away and what to do when recovering.”
Once they secured their defensive perimeter, Ackley jumped in to help the combat medic in treating the wounded, which included two soldiers and a civilian reporter.
One of the soldiers had shrapnel wounds all over his back, legs and feet, according to Ackley.
“He got the brunt of the blast from the grenade,” Ackley said.
The attackers fled into the hills after the attack.
After taking stock of the situation, the team decided to convoy back to COP Sabari, and receive medical treatment there. After initial assessment and treatment, Ackley was airlifted to a facility able to provide a higher level of care.
“I pretty much got stripped naked and thrown onto the (helicopter) with an emergency blanket so my butt was to the wind,” he said.
Ackley said he never thought twice about providing aid while ignoring his own medical needs.
“I did my job as a medic,” Ackley said. “I could still walk although it hurt to bend down and move; other people needed (medical) attention, I was capable helping the doc out so I did.”
Docksey was especially impressed with Ackley’s actions.
“What Sergeant Ackely did to ignore his own wounds to help others showed he was focused on helping the other guys,” he said. “He kept doing what he could do to help out; not focusing on his pain till everybody else had been helped.”

He has already lost his right leg and arm for our freedom - should Richard lose his home now?
VFC has managed to collect over $400 in the last week to help three wounded Vets, but one injured Hero still needs our help NOW to keep from becoming homeless.
Will you also contact your elected officials and ask them to expedite the claims of the wounded from your state so they do not suffer the additional stress of worrying about losing their homes?

ALL HANDS ON DECK
Dear VFC Friend:
I've taken Matthew, Jerry and Adam off the call for donations list as we¡¦ve completed those this morning. But we have one Veteran left who desperately needs our help to keep him from being homeless.
I want to thank the ten donors who made it possible to cover three Veterans, Veterans-For-Change doesn¡¦t have many who donate and these ten are among those who do on a regular basis. My sincerest hope is that those who haven¡¦t, please consider helping this one Veteran, even if you can only donate one time, now is the time to please consider making a donation.
We've struggled over the past month to meet the needs of our community, and this weekend is no different.
Our work is only possible with the assistance of generous donations from members of the community. Without donations from supporters such as yourself, the people who benefited from Veterans-For-Change services over the past five years would have been left to face their challenges with PTSD, TBI, and the various injuries and illnesses all alone. It is our belief that every person dealing with these problems/illnesses deserves the support that we are willing to give.
„« Army CPL Richard D....., 26 of Texas served two tours in Iraq in service to his country. Richard lost his right leg and arm when an IED exploded while supporting combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq. Richard has come to ask for assistance with his rent. We¡¦re looking to raise $325.00.
We¡¦ve been in contact with the Senators from Texas and asked they too get involved in Richards claim and expedite the process.
We needed $709.00 and now we¡¦re into the final stretch and only need $304.00 by 8:00am Monday morning to meet this last Veterans need.
Won't you help us help Matthew, Jerry, Richard and Adam in their time of need? Your financial support can help us make a positive difference in their lives.
You may call go to PayPal and make your tax deductible donation of $10, $25, $50, $100 or more by clicking on this link https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=WGT2M5UTB9A78 to make a credit card donation.
Please help us to make more success stories!
With sincere appreciation,
