THE NATIONAL GUARD RESPONDS TO HURRICANE IRENE
ARLINGTON, Va. (8/26/11) – As of 11:30 a.m. EST the governors of seven states had declared states of emergency, prompting National Guard adjutants general to upgrade Hurricane Condition levels and relocate assets in preparation for Hurricane Irene, Guard officials said today.

DEFENSE DEPARTMENT PREPARES IN ADVANCE OF HURRICANE IRENE
ARLINGTON, Va. (8/27/11) – The Department of Defense announced on Friday that it is currently providing support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) efforts to prepare for Hurricane Irene's expected landfall on the U.S. mainland.

NEW YORK NATIONAL GUARD MOBILIZES HUNDREDS OF TROOPS FOR HURRICANE IRENE
LATHAM, N.Y. (8/26/11) – At the direction of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the New York Army and Air National Guard will mobilize and deploy 900 Soldiers and Airmen and over 100 vehicles on Saturday in response to Hurricane Irene to support civil authorities on Long Island, New York City and the Hudson Valley.

VIRGINIA GUARD MEMBERS PRE-POSITIONED FOR HURRICANE
RICHMOND, Va. (8/27/11) – The Virginia National Guard successfully and safely moved approximately 325 Soldiers, Airmen and members of the Virginia Defense Force Friday night to staging areas across the commonwealth in preparation for possible duty for recovery operations related to Hurricane Irene.

ALASKA AIR NATIONAL GUARD TO PROVIDE RESCUE SUPPORT FOR HURRICANE IRENE
CAMP DENALI, Alaska (8/26/11) - The Alaska Air National Guard is ramping up this afternoon to send crews and equipment to Charleston, W. Va., to provide search and rescue assets in response to Hurricane Irene.

PUERTO RICO GUARD HELPS VIEQUES WITH TROPICAL STORM IRENE AFTERMATH
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (8/25/11) – The Puerto Rico National Guard's Marine Transportation Unit on Wednesday was transporting heavy equipment for debris removal to the island municipality of Vieques to help with repairs after the damage from Sunday's Tropical Storm Irene.
