Tuesday, the 30th day of Aug, 2011.

Due to the unusual natural activities of the past week, the earthquake that hit only minutes before we were to go on air last Tuesday and then Hurricane Irene, we had to delay the show we had planned to air on August 23rd. So, today's show will actually be an hour longer than usual as we include more interviews with our deployed Heroes of Freedom, ending about 5pm Central. We will check in with four deployed members, two in the Army and two serving with the Air Force. Each of our guests will share a wealth of information with us that will touch on a variety of military service and lifestyle issues. Remember, if you are not able to stay with us through the afternoon today, this show will repeat again tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug 31st at 6:30pm Central.

Let us send out our well wishes to our many neighbors who have been so badly affected by Hurricane Irene. And we also send our gratitude to the National Guard, the Red Cross and all who are going in to the hard hit areas to help.

(2:11pm) For our first visit, we are joined by Army 1LT Calvin King, who is on his 4th deployment since Jan 2002 and, as he says, his boys are growing up while he is gone. 1LT King holds down a minimum of two areas of responsibility with C Co/299th Brigade Support Battalion, 2-1 AAB as the Brigade Medical Supply Officer and also serves with the Convoy Commando Security which provide supplies to other bases and camps. This dedicated officer oversees medical supplies and maintenance for a brigade of around 4,000 soldiers. We often talk on Stardust Radio about how our military members are givers, and 1LT King is a shining example especially when you consider that he was a high school English teacher prior to standing guard over our freedom.

(3:02pm) Surprisingly there are not a lot of military Historians, but we have the honor of visiting with Mr. Faron Thompson this afternoon, who is currently on deployment with the 376th AEW at Transit Center Manas in Kyrgyzstan. As the Historian for the 376th, Mr Thompson is documenting all that goes on from the many units and offices around that base. Not only does he have a handle on what goes into the records of the 376th, but he himself has led a very interesting career both in and out of the military. This visit is just as interesting as the career journey taken by Mr Thompson, who is documenting today's activities for tomorrow's history.

(4:05pm) Our third visit is with SFC Jonathan DeLong of HHC, 1-18 IN, 2-1 AAB on deployment in Iraq. SFC DeLong is no stranger to Stardust Radio as one of his duties is Public Affairs and he has helped to bring us some great visits from his unit over the past months. He is also the Battalion Fire Support Officer (Sr Artilleryman), assists in Humanitarian Outreach projects and, of course, looks after the soldiers in his unit. Are there enough hours in the day? Probably not as this soldier, who is on his 3rd deployment to Iraq, stays very busy in these closing days of service in this country. Yet, on top of all that, SFC DeLong received his Associate's Degree last month.

(4:38 pm) Our fourth and final visit for the afternoon is with TSG Terry Murrell who is also currently on deployment with the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing at Transit Center Manas in the Kyrgyz Republic. TSG Murrell's visit wil once again confirm just how busy our military members are, especially on deployment, and yet they maintain an amazing energy level. TSG Murrell has worked in three areas during this tour away from home and is even looking at possibly extending his length of deployment beyond the 6 months as originally scheduled. Another great visit with a Hero of Freedom who has joined the 1% of the American population who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

We would like to express our appreciation to some folks without whom the visits this week would not be possible. Our deepest appreciation goes to Army CPT Selina Tolonen, Air Force TSgt Tammie Moore and SFC Jonathan DeLong.

CANDLELIGHT MEMORIAL AUGUST 30TH 6PM - 11PM

We would like to mention that the family and friends of SPC Chad D Clements are holding a countrywide candle light memorial tonight starting at 6pm until 11:00pm in your time zone. SPC Clements, 26 years young, was assigned to the 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. SPC Clements was killed Aug. 30th of 2010 in Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Also killed in the attack were Army Capt. Dale A Goetz, Army Staff Sgt. Jesse Infante, Army Staff Sgt. Kevin J. Kessler and Army Staff Sgt. Matthew J. West.

While this memorial was started for Chad and his fallen unit members, it would be totally appropriate to also remember any and all of our Fallen Heroes. May God bring these Heroes of Freedom eternal peace and may He comfort their loved ones.

In this show, you will hear 1LT King ask to remember Army CWO2 Bryan J. Nichols and his family. Chief Nichols, 31 years young, of Hays, died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter in which he, as a crew member, and 37 others were riding when it was shot down.

We will be participating during the candlelight vigil this evening to remember Chief Nichols and his family, Chad and his unit members, the Fallen Heroes from the units in the 2-1 AAB on duty in Iraq, to all who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the past years and to all the loved ones.

Sadly, we know that more injured Veterans who are waiting on slow claims will also be needing help for utilities, groceries, and some for help with rent. We are talking about Veterans who served one to four tours in Iraq and/or Afghanistan and came home with serious, life changing injuries, but whose claims still have not cleared the VA.

Until these claims are settled on a timely basis and until our Vets who are trying to recover from amputations and worse are able to focus on healing without worrying about keeping a roof over their heads, we must be ready to help. Veterans For Change is great about locating organizations and churches to help, talking to landlords to work out payments, etc. But each week, there is still help needed to see that 4 - 6 injured Vets have shelter, food and power. Please help whenever you can. THANK YOU!

And a reminder to all - Will you please contact your elected officials and ask them to expedite the claims of the wounded from your state so they do not suffer the additional stress of worrying about losing their homes while they also try to heal?
